Acne Sufferers - If You Change Your Lifestyle You Could Change Your Lives

Can we find a natural remedy for acne or are acne sufferers forever committed to looking for the next wonder drug, lotion or cream, only to be disappointed yet again? Are they to be forever doing the rounds of doctors and dermatologists trying prescriptions that often do not work and can have serious side effects.

Diet could be the key

Many acne sufferers know that certain foods aggravate their condition. There is too much evidence from too many people to be ignored. Many people have found their condition worsened after eating some food and, conversely, it improved when these foods were avoided. Recent studies by a research team at Australia's RMIT University and Royal Melbourne Hospital Department of Dermatology has shown a solid link between diet and acne. Findings of the study were presented at the 15th Congress of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venerology in Greece and published in the prestigious Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Whilst there is still more work to be done the research clearly indicated:

· A high GI diet of highly refined carbohydrates such as white sugar, white flour, and sugar drinks, caused breakouts
· A healthy, low GI diet of fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, fish and seafood reduced acne significantly
· In the study group, the young men on the healthy diet reduced their acne by 50% over the 12 week period and their self-esteem and sense of wellbeing improved

The right diet is only one of the steps in healing acne in a natural way. The formation and cure of acne are complex issues but, for most sufferers, the existing pharmaceutical treatments do not give long-lasting relief. They do not approach the problem in a holistic way. They do not get to the root cause. Most doctors do not believe diet plays a role in the cause and aggravation of acne. Most of their knowledge is based on very old studies dating back to the late sixties and seventies but, as we have seen, more recent studies have shown that diet has a vital role to play. The message is clear for acne sufferers: a change in eating habits could change their lives.

To be Forget of Prostate Cancer Forever: 5 Simple and Effective Lifestyle Changes

Prostate cancer, the male equivalent of breast cancer, has many known causes. Before you can eliminate prostate cancer you need to know these causes. To successfully become free of the problem, doesn't it make sense to identify the factors which caused it in the first place and remove those causes and allow the body to heal itself, which it will do?
It is very rare for prostate cancer like all other cancers to have a single cause. It is more typically triggered by a combination of the following; nutritional deficiencies, the toxins in your environment, our sedentary lifestyle and emotional conflict.

1
Emotional stress can have a devastating effect on the immune system which can bring on all cancers, not just prostate cancer. This type of stress is usually causes by major problems in one's life like a financial crises or even marital conflict. Don't be afraid to seek the help from someone experienced in counselling for these types of problems.

2
The chemicals we use daily do cause us health problems, many of them have not been tested for safety and none have been tested for long term reaction like cancer. We are surrounded by them as we breathe them in as in exhaust gases and industry pollution; we apply them to our skin as in personal care products which our body rapidly absorbs. They are also in our processed foods as additives, such as food colourings, most food colourings are from artificial sources.

3
Remember, prostate cancer is not causes by bad luck, it is caused by bad management, the more you choose to get involved, the greater a difference you can make to the outcome of your disease. It is essential that you base your decisions for your treatment on sound knowledge so in the end you will restore your health. Prostate cancer is an entirely preventable and curable disease.

4
Known foods that contribute to prostate cancer are a diet high in animal fat, the consumption of processed meat or pressed meats which contain the additives sodium nitrate or sodium nitrite. It's also caused by our low consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables.
Fresh fruit and vegetables are man's natural food and all contain phytonutrients which have cancer fighting properties. For instance research has found that both tomatoes and broccoli contain phytonutrients that are beneficial in both fighting cancer and keeping us cancer free. Their benefits are said to be even greater when eaten together.

5
Our bodies were built to be physically active and we'll inevitably pay the price if we neglect this basic and fundamental need. The way exercise is related to cancer is, it boosts our all important immune system and all cancers are simply a disease of a weak immune system. Our immune system doesn't have a pump like the heart but relies on muscular activity to circulate the fluid within the immune system. The immune system defends the body against bacteria, viruses and other foreign invaders including cancer cells.

Practice Good Oral Hygiene: Top 10 Reasons

It is easy to understand why oral hygiene is important for your mouth. But did you know that poor oral hygiene causes problems throughout the rest of your body? Besides creating health issues, poor oral hygiene can create social issue for you too. Who wants to be known as the person with bad breath? If these aren't reasons enough to practice good oral hygiene, here are a few more:

Top 10 Reasons to Practice Good Oral Hygiene

1) Did you know that bad teeth, caused by poor oral hygiene, could give you a heart attack? Numerous recent studies have shown that ignoring oral hygiene could encourage heart disease and that there is a relationship between periodontal disease and a greater risk for developing problems with the heart and circulatory system. In a study at the University of Montana, researchers followed participants ranging in age from 57 - 75 with no history of stroke or heart disease. They scanned participants' carotid arteries for atherosclerosis and examined participants' teeth and gums, looking for signs of periodontal disease. Besides analyzing signs such as plaque on the teeth and pockets between the teeth and gum, they also counted the number of teeth each person - considering tooth loss to be a sign of past periodontal disease. The study showed that people with the most missing teeth had the most carotid artery plague.

2) Poor oral hygiene can give you systemic injuries. Pyorrhea is an infection of the gums and tooth-sockets. The infection starts beneath the edges of the gums and progresses into the membranes that attach the root of the tooth to the socket. There, a pocket is formed and as the pus is continually produced it is discharged into your mouth and swallowed. Also, as the tooth rises and falls in its diseased socket during ordinary chewing, bacteria are forced into the circulation and may be carried to other body parts, attacking tissues in which they can thrive including your heart, kidneys and lungs.

3) Practice good oral hygiene to keep all of your teeth. Pyorrhea is also the culprit of tooth loss. As this gum infection progresses, it destroys the membranes that attach the root of your tooth to the tooth's socket. A pocket is formed around the root and the tooth becomes loosened, eventually falling out.

4) Bad breathe, also known as halitosis, is caused by poor oral hygiene. Although there are other factors that affect the quality of your breath including smoking, gum disease, dry mouth and medicines, the primary cause of halitosis is oral bacteria. Control your breath by brushing, flossing and visiting your dentist for professional cleanings.

5) Good oral hygiene prevents cavities. One of the most obvious reasons to practice good oral hygiene is to prevent cavities. Acids that eat away at tooth enamel are caused by dental plaque. The bacteria in plaque consumes sugars and the waste product created from these bacteria digesting sugars is the acid that causes demineralization of tooth enamel and dentin. The more often and longer duration that food is in your mouth, the greater chance plaque has to grow. Minimize in-between meals and snacking. Brush twice and day and don't forget to floss.

6) Oral hygiene promotes a pretty mouth. Practicing good oral hygiene helps you to preserve your natural good looks. Your smile is one of the first things that people notice - and poor oral hygiene can speak volumes in an instant. If you have braces, oral hygiene is even more imperative. Spending thousands of dollars to straighten your teeth will seem meaningless if after you remove them you have white scaring on your enamel. Poor oral hygiene can allow plaque to work behind braces, causing white scars that could become permanent. Keep your teeth healthy, white and cavity-free with a nutritious diet, visits to your dentist twice a year and proper oral hygiene.

7) Oral hygiene prevents gum infection. Harmful bacteria called plaque are also the cause of gum disease. If you do not control plaque it will build up on your gums and irritate them, eventually causing them to bleed easily. When left uncontrolled the infection can attack your bone and connective tissues. Teeth will loosen and ultimately must be removed.

8) Oral hygiene is good for your bank account. Practicing good oral hygiene is the foundation of preventive dentistry, whose goal is to maintain healthy teeth and gums, and to prevent oral illnesses. A proper diet and plaque control will help you to safeguard yourself against dental decay and keep expensive repairs to your mouth to a minimum. While preventive dentistry, such as professional cleanings, is usually covered 100% by insurance, retroactive repairs such as root canals are not. Safe time and money by practicing good oral hygiene - and prevent expensive problems from rearing its ugly head.

9) Practice good oral hygiene to keep your energy levels high. Lack of sleep, hectic lifestyle and stress can weaken the body's defense system and affect overall wellbeing. When you have an infection in your mouth, it can cause your immune system to be constantly elevated. This constant elevation can affect your energy levels, making your feel tired more often as well as increasing your susceptibility to other illnesses.

10) Good oral hygiene is your most simple, economical way to keep a happy, healthy smile. Brush, floss, visit your dentist regularly cleanings and checkups, eat a healthy diet, drink lots of water and stop smoking. Following the proper approach to oral hygiene will held you keep a full, durable and brilliant set of teeth for your whole life.

Lifestyle: Choosing The Right Time For Home Care

Are your parents ready for home care services?

Home Care is the professional care of seniors in their home, and a wonderful alternative to assisted living when the senior just needs some help, but can otherwise do fine.

Sooner or later, if we live long enough, all of us will require assistance in managing the things that we once handled very efficiently. Chronic disease, physical aliments, loss of motor skills, and weakened systems are all a natural part of the aging process.

Some people require assistance sooner than others so while some people may require some level of assistance in their early 60's others may not require any assistance until some time in their 80's.

In cases where sudden a sudden illness or accident requires home care, the changes are relatively sudden and easy to identify. Most people accept the necessity for these changes easier too.

When the decline is gradual, the little aches and pains that grow into big aches and pains slowly eat away at a person's ability to accomplish tasks. It starts with an occasional bad day and the occasional bad day doesn't mean that help is required. But then as time goes on, the bad days become more frequent.

Psychological barriers to home care

It's not easy to accept the necessity for help either. To do so necessarily admits to frailty which is something that we have been taught is synonymous with weakness of the spirit or mind. We have been told that weakness makes us less worthy.

Some experts say that this boils down to a matter of perspective. Do you view the help as a convenience, as an entitlement or do you view it as a necessity? Is getting the help a luxury or a requirement?

It all depends on the way you look at it. People that view home care assistance as a convenience or luxury generally handle it better than those that view it as a necessity.

Sometimes it also helps to start adding services one at a time and before they are really needed. It's easier to accept services as a convenience and adding other services later just isn't as big of a deal.

Health related services

Home care services are often required as a result of poor health, illness, or poor nutritional balance. Age can often change our attitude towards food and can reduce food cravings. Taste buds don't give the satisfaction from eating as much as they used to and sometimes, seniors just don't feel hungry or care to eat.

When people live alone, regardless of age, there is a tendency towards poor nutrition. "There is nobody to cook for, so why go through all the trouble."

It's the family members that generally come across these situations. Like finding out that Mom usually only has a piece of toast in the morning, maybe a couple of nuts for lunch, and a cookie for dinner. It doesn't happen to everyone, but it does happen to some.

Poor diet always leads to poor health and often needless degradation of other body systems. Seniors should always be watched for nutritional balance. With regular visits and checks of the refrigerator and shelves, you can generally get a pretty good handle on what their nutrition is like.

Poor nutrition and medicine habits

Poor nutrition should be addressed promptly before other symptoms develop. The answer may be as simple as a local Meals on Wheels program. With such services around, the likelihood of a proper diet is much higher.

Other health problems can be much more severe or catastrophic if not handled promptly. Forgetting to take medications or taking them improperly can cause severe reactions or worse.

A good way to determine whether someone is taking medications properly is to keep an inventory balance of their medications. Start with a beginning balance and determine how many pills they should have left at the end of a given period of time.

For instance, if you start out with 60 pills and you know the person is supposed to take 2 pills per day, then at the end of 15 days, there should only be 30 pills remaining.

If you have more or less medication that you should have, it's obvious that the person has not been taking the proper amount of medication and alternative plans should be made to monitor the taking of that medication.

Lifestyle: Maintaining Good Senior Health

Numerous studies have shown that people who regularly eat fruits and vegetables have much lower chances of getting heart disease, cancer and many other chronic conditions. Unfortunately, less than 5% of us eat the recommended 5-6 servings of fruits and vegetables daily.

As a result, we are not only missing important vitamins and minerals, but also phytochemicals, which scientists believe may be even more important than vitamins in preventing health problems. Phytochemicals are substances in plants that protect them from disease, injury and pollutants.

They form the plants' immune systems. The key to staying healthy, especially as you get older, is keeping your immune system strong. That's exactly what phytochemicals do best. Everyone, regardless of age, should supplement with phytochemicals to maintain a powerful immune system.

Government Studies

The National Cancer Institute directors are so excited about the success and potential of phytochemicals that they’ve committed a substantial portion of their multimillion-dollar budget towards more extensive research.

According to Dr. D. L. Davis, Senior Science Advisor at the U.S. Public Health Service, "Phytochemicals can take growths and defuse them. They can turn off the proliferative process of damaged cell growth" which can result in cancer.

Dr. Paul Talalay of Johns Hopkins Medical Institute says that a phytochemical found in broccoli (sulforaphane) kept cancer-prone animals from getting tumors even when exposed to cancer-causing chemicals.

Several other studies have found that sulforaphane-type phytochemicals actually block the development of cancer cells BEFORE they are formed.

The seventh most common form of cancer occurs in the esophagus. Smokers and drinkers often have this problem. Dr. Gary Stoner and other scientists at Ohio State University's Cancer Prevention Laboratory found that sulforaphane reduced its incidence by 40% and the likelihood of spread by 90%.

The University of Illinois created a new department specifically for phytochemical research, with 63 professors and scientists involved. It’s apparent that phytochemicals are probably the promising illness deterrents to come along in many decades - with no side effects!

Dr. Gary Stoner of the University of Ohio, a specialist in breast and lung cancers, reported that isothiocyanates, found in cabbage, inhibit lung growths caused by chemicals (such as smoke). Cigarette smoke contains a tremendous number of free radicals, which are strongly implicated in causing cancer and other ailments.

One phytochemical found in garlic specifically attacks cigarette smoke free radicals, according to Dr. B. Torok's clinical tests at the University of Tubingen in Germany.

Reduced Cancer Growths From 50% to 75%!

A study conducted at Johns Hopkins Medical School of 41,837 women for five years showed that those who consumed garlic regularly had 50% lower risk of colon cancer. Scientists at Roswell Park Cancer Institute were able to reduce the number of tumors in cancer-prone rats by up to 75% with a phytochemical from garlic.

Phytochemicals Deter the Growth of Damaged Cells

Dr. H. Fujiki proved in tests at the National Cancer Research Institute that epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) found in green tea leaves seals damaged cells, thereby preventing their growth and spreading. The doctor was able to reduce the number of cancers in animals by 47% and concluded that EGCG is one of the best growth deterrents available.

Researchers at University Hospital of Cleveland said that EGCG is an exceptionally powerful antioxidant. Their clinical tests showed that it deters skin, colon and stomach cancer.

In addition, it also lowers blood cholesterol levels. Prostate and Lung Researchers reported in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute that lycopenes, which are found in tomatoes, provide effective protection against lung and prostate cancer. In one large study involving almost 50,000 men, those whose consumption of lycopene was the highest had a 47% reduction in prostate cancer.

Scientists suggest that the reason men in Italy and Greece have considerably fewer prostate problems is that they eat more tomatoes than men do elsewhere.

You can have a Healthier Heart

Phytochemicals, common in most vegetables, may help deter heart disease because they destroy free radicals in the arteries. Spirulina and chlorophyll remove environmental poisons from the blood. Also, spirulina contains superoxide dismutase (SOD), a very effective antioxidant.

A phytochemical found in garlic is a strong antioxidant. Many studies have shown that it breaks down blood clots and reduces high blood pressure.

In one study of 432 heart attack patients, cardiologist Dr. Arun Bordia at Tagore Medical College in India showed that those who ate garlic suffered 66% fewer fatalities after three years.

Dr. Neil Martin reported in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology that garlic also helps reduce irregular heartbeats by almost 35%.

Faster Healing and Better Skin Texture

The best known phytochemical is chlorophyll; the green coloring in most plants that is commonly used as a breath freshener.

But it has some other amazing attributes. Scientists at the University of New York Medical School found that it quickly heals bedsores, improves skin texture and detoxifies dietary poisons that can cause health problems.

Cooking may Destroy Phytochemicals!

Phytochemicals, as well as most vitamins, are very sensitive to heat. According to the National Food Review Board, cooking destroys up to 93% of the nutrients. That's why it is better to eat your fruits and vegetables in their natural form.

The Swinger Lifestyle History

Historically, it has not been uncommon to find societies that have advocated having a lifestyle with multiple sexual partners. Furthermore both royalty and nobility in many cultures had consorts and concubines. Ancient Rome has been notable (if not infamous) for its enthusiastic acceptance of orgies and alternative sexual practices. However, though contemporary swingers celebrate those ideals, the actual practice of swinging in the 20th century began differently.

According to Terry Gould's The Lifestyle: A Look at the Erotic Rites of Swingers, swinging began among U.S. Air Force pilots and their wives during World War II. In this small community, the mortality rate among pilots was significantly high. Gould reports that a close bond between pilots arose, with the implication that the husbands would protect and care for all the wives as their own, both emotionally and sexually, if the husbands were away or lost. This historical narrative is debatable, however, since it would have been highly unusual for servicemen's wives to accompany them on any foreign tours of duty.

Other sources point to American Air Force pilots stationed in the California desert as the original participants in modern swinging. Though the exact beginnings are not agreed upon, it is widely assumed that swinging began amongst American military communities in the 1950s. By the time the Korean War ended, these groups had spread from the bases to the nearby suburbs. The media picked up on them in 1957 and promptly dubbed the phenomenon 'wife-swapping.' It wasn't until the 1960s in Berkeley, California that the first organization, 'Sexual Freedom League', for swingers was opened.

Ultimately, an umbrella organization called the North American Swing Club Association (NASCA) (now NASCA International) was formed to encourage accurate information about swinging lifestyles all across America. Some subjective scientific research into swinging has been conducted in the USA since the late 1960s. The most recent study, based on an Internet questionnaire addressed to visitors of lifestyle-related sites, found swingers are happier in their relationships than the norm. 60% Of swingers said that swinging improved their relationship and only 1.7% said it made their relationship less happy.

Half of those who rated their relationship very happy before becoming swingers maintained it had become even happier. 90% Of those with less happy relationships said swinging improved them. Almost 70% of swingers claimed no problem with controlling jealousy, around a quarter admitted 'I have difficulty controlling jealousy when swinging' to be somewhat true but only 6% said this was 'Yes, Very Much' true. Swingers rate themselves happier (59% against 32% very happy) and their lives much more exciting (76% against 54% exciting) than does the rest of the population, by surprisingly large margins. There was no difference between the responses of men and women, although more males (70%) than females completed the survey.

This study, while enlightening, is of limited accuracy of the swinging population as a whole, due to its self-selected sampling technique. Internet-based sampling procedures create a substantial potential for bias. It is likely that those swinging couples who had stronger relationships were more motivated to complete the questionnaire. Alternatively, the stress that swinging may place on a marriage means that only those with higher than average levels of commitment to their partners are able to remain married whilst swinging.

Couples that have jealousy or strife issues caused by swinging will not usually stay in the swinging lifestyle and thus would have been unlikely to respond. ABC News reporter John Stossel produced an investigative report into the lifestyle. Stossel reported that over 4 million people are swingers, according to estimates by the Kinsey Institute and other researchers. He also cited Terry Gould's research, in which Gould concluded that 'couples swing in order to not cheat on their partners.' When Stossel asked swinging couples whether they worry that their spouse will 'find they like someone else better', one male interviewee replied, 'People in the swinging community swing for a reason.

They don't swing to go out and find a new wife;' while a woman interviewee asserted, 'It makes women more confident -- that they are the ones in charge.' Stossel interviewed 12 marriage counselors about the lifestyle. According to Stossel, 'not one of them said don't do it', though some also said 'getting sexual thrills outside of marriage can threaten a marriage'. Nevertheless, the swingers whom Stossel interviewed claimed that 'their marriages are stronger because they don't have affairs and they don't lie to each other.

Small Facelifts Match Today's Lifestyles

My office often gets asked if we perform the 'LifeStyle Lift', 'S-Lift', and a variety of other names that end in -lift. The callers and patients don't know, of course, that all these names really refer to the same procedure, otherwise known as a limited facelift. Their interest is peaked by the allure of improvement in sagging jowls or loose neck skin but without the downtime of a full facelift.

The confusion comes from a general misunderstanding of what a facelift is or actually achieves. Most patients envision a facelift as a procedure that starts at the top of the head and ends somewhere below the neck. Visions of weeks of seclusion, obscene facial swelling and bruising, and ruinous financial strain make many patients feel that they definitely don't want a facelift. They don't understand that a facelift is really a misnamed procedure. A more accurate description of what it is....is a necklift or a jowl-necklift. A facelift, in isolation, does very little above the jawline or for most of the face. Only the neck and jowl line are changed from this procedure. Patients will often have other rejuvenating procedures done at the same time as their facelift such as on the eyes, nose, cheeks, lips, and chin. While these procedures are complementary to a facelift, they themselves do not constitute the facelift operation. As a stand-alone procedure, a facelift is really about the neck and jowls and creating a sharper neck angle and a clean jowl line again.

Therefore, a limited facelift is a scaled down version of the full facelift. It has gotten, for a variety of marketing purposes, many catchy names as previously mentioned. Some plastic surgeons even put their own name on it. But, in the end, there are all the same procedure. A limited facelift is.....limited. Meaning the length of the incisions used (in front of the ear), how much skin is undermined and removed, and the amount of subsequent after surgery care and recovery is much less than a full facelift. And the important thing to understand here is....the outcome is also not as significant as that of a full facelift. For this reason, limited facelifts are best done are younger facial aging concerns or on older patients who only want a smaller facelift for recovery or economic reasons.

I have found that one-half of the facelifts I do today are of the limited variety. They are very popular due to their quick recovery, lack of pain, and minimal swelling and bruising. They are a great stopgap measure that will substantially delay the need for a facelift is some patients and may, in others, potentiallhy eliminate the long-term need for a full facelift. Whe combined with other small face procedures, such as eye tucks and peels, they really make a nice change with no chance of getting that 'operated look.'
